Celebrating Earth Day with Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Market
Mark your calendars, Las Vegas! On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Downtown Summerlin will transform into a vibrant hub of sustainability, education, and youthful entrepreneurship as Green Our Planet hosts its Giant Student Farmers Market. Held in celebration of Earth Day, this event promises to be a highlight of the season, bringing together students, families, and eco-conscious community members for a day of fun, learning, and fresh, homegrown goodness.
A Growing Tradition
Now in its 12th year, the Giant Student Farmers Market is no small feat—it’s recognized as the largest student-run farmers market in the United States. Organized by Green Our Planet, a leading nonprofit dedicated to school garden and hydroponics programs, this event showcases the incredible efforts of over 520 “Farmpreneurs” from 52 Clark County School District (CCSD) schools. These young growers have been hard at work tending their school gardens, and on April 22, they’ll bring their harvests to The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
What’s on offer? Expect a delightful array of student-grown produce—think crisp veggies, fragrant herbs, and maybe even some early spring fruits—alongside handmade crafts that reflect the creativity and ingenuity of these budding entrepreneurs. Every purchase you make directly supports the garden programs at participating schools, ensuring that this green movement keeps growing.
More Than Just a Market
This isn’t your average farmers market. It’s a celebration of education in action. Green Our Planet’s mission goes beyond teaching kids how to plant seeds; it’s about cultivating life skills. Through their school garden programs, students—affectionately dubbed “Farmpreneurs”—learn the ins and outs of financial literacy, business planning, and customer service. They create business plans, track profits, and interact with customers, all while promoting sustainability and healthy eating.
As Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet, puts it, “This event is a powerful demonstration of what students can achieve when given the right tools and opportunities.” It’s a chance for these young minds to see the fruits of their labor (literally!) and understand their role in caring for our planet.
Earth Day Done Right
What better way to honor Earth Day than by supporting the next generation of environmental stewards? The market’s timing couldn’t be more perfect, aligning with a global celebration of our planet’s beauty and resilience. Held on The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin (1980 Festival Plaza Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89135), the event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome to stroll through, shop, and soak in the festive atmosphere.
Adding to the excitement, you might even spot some special guests—like the Las Vegas Aces mascot, Bucket$, or the Las Vegas Aviators’ Spruce—cheering on the students and bringing extra smiles to the day. Sponsors like Credit One Bank, Las Vegas Sands Care, Bank of Nevada, Howard Hughes, United Way of Southern Nevada, Lazy Dog, and CCSD are also pitching in to make this Earth Day celebration one to remember.
Why You Should Join In
Whether you’re a parent, a foodie, or just someone who loves a good cause, the Giant Student Farmers Market offers something for everyone. It’s a chance to stock up on fresh, local produce, snag unique handmade treasures, and connect with a community that’s passionate about sustainability. Plus, you’ll be supporting an initiative that empowers kids to think big—about their futures, their businesses, and their planet.
